X Factor USA - Judges Homes

The baseball game last night went on long enough to delay X Factor an entire day. But we have a sneak peek at the episode. I don't want to spoil it for my twitter friends, so I will do my "live blog" below! I used to doing this on twitter, so it will probably just look like a series of short tweets and comments.

X Factor USA Episode 7 Live Blog:

The girls AND Simon are all very excited to have Simon as a mentor. Simon says "I know the winner is in this category".

The 2 newly formed groups from bootcamp are called "Intensity" and "Lakoda Rayne"

"I have helped mold and shape many superstar careers" - Paula

Nicole brings on Enrique Iglesias to help her judge. Paula has Pharrell. Simon was supposed to have Mariah Carey but was suck in the US due to Hurricane Irene. LA brings on Rihanna.

Hearing Rihanna talk kind of blows my mind. I forgot she had an accent.

First up to perform for LA and Rihanna is Bryan "Astro" Bradley with Can't Nobody Hold Me Down by Puff Daddy. I don't really like his attitude, but he is beatboxing and putting on a pretty solid performance. Rihanna is almost in tears. LA seems unsure, thinks he may just be a novelty.

Simone Battle is the first of the girls to sing for Simon. I did not like her last week and she forgot all her words. This time around she is singing Help! By The Beatles. Her outfit is terrible, but her singing is actually really good today.

I like how Steve Jones is at all the Judges houses at the same time.

The Anser is going first in front of Paula and Pharell for the groups. They're singing Perfect by Pink and it is an absolute trainwreck. When the one guy was singing alone at the beginning it was okay, but once they all go in there the whole thing just fell apart.

Dexter Haygood is singing some sort of whacked out version of Beyonce's Crazy In Live for Nicole and Enrique. It's quite strange, but I really want to see what he can do on the big stage. He's fun to watch. From homeless to millionaire? That would be something. "I wanna be the best". Don't cry Dexter! I liked it!

Skyler Anderson is next for LA. He is singing Nobody Knows by Babyface (or Tony Rich). He needs a lot of work. This wasn't a good performance for him. Rihanna says he has a lot to work with an needs to be polished. LA is not sure if he is an authentic country singer.

My favorite Tora Woloshin is up next! I am really excited to see her. She says she is struggling with the song and memorizing the lyrics. I love her voice, I love everything about Tora. She seemed to struggle with the words a little bit, I think she only sang the chorus a couple times, but it SOUNDED great.

NEW group up now, Lakoda Rayne formed in Bootcamp made from 4 eliminated contestants who didn't even know each other before this. They are singing Lady Gaga's Born This Way. They all seem pretty good solo, but they need some work singing together still. They'll get there with practice I think.

Stacy Francis is singing Purple Rain by Prince. She is good, but she didn't wow like she did in previous performances. She has a nice voice, but something was missing this time around I think.

The Brewer Boys, Nathan and Justin, are up next. Paula picked... Only Girl In The World by Rihanna. What a weird song choice. But they really did a good job. But on the other hand, you can search for any pop song on youtube and find a million videos that sound just like this.

Phillip Lomax is also singing Rihanna, but in his case is has to perform it TO Rihanna. He is singing a totally re arranged version of Please Don't Stop The Music. Total lounge act. I think he would do well selling a CD of pop covers re done in this style, but I don't think it's worth 5 million dollars. This is the first time I have heard Phillip come out of his comfort zone a little though.

Elaine Gibbs is singing Stop Crying Your Heart Out by Oasis (Leona Lewis version). This is a song that I think Elaine would never ever have chosen for herself, but it worked. I love this song and she did a really good version.

Caitlin Koch is singing Will You Love Me Tomorrow. She is really great. This is one the the best versions of this song I have heard in a while.

I was never a huge fan of Nick Voss, I always thought he was kind of a fake, not very genuine. This performance of Everybody Wants To Rule The World by Tears For Fears didn't sway me to the other side. Time to cut this one loose.

4Shore up now. They are singing If You Love Me by Brownstone. I am not a 4Shore fan, they sing well together, but they don't have anyone solid enough to do solos in my opinion.

James Kenny is next for the over 30s. His version of Rihanna's Russian Roulette was actually really really great, I hope I get to hear more from him.

Another one of my top favorites Drew Ryniewicz is up now with It Must Have Been Love by Roxette. This was one of the best performance of the episode. This girl is really good, and I think she'd be very successful out in the real music world too.

This episode will air THURSDAY 10/13 at 8PM EST. And the NEXT episode will be SUNDAY 10/16 at 8PM EST

Tucson Teenager Learns “Gold Ticket” Invitation to Hollywood Doesn’t Mean Much

Tucson, Arizona February 20, 2006-- Four days before 16 year old Tora Woloshin was due to depart for Hollywood after earning a gold ticket at American Idol auditions in Las Vegas, she received news that she had been eliminated. One of 175 contestants selected nationwide for the finals, Tora prepared for Hollywood week (Dec 4-10) immediately following the Las Vegas audition in October of 2005. It wasn’t until November 30 that Idol producers told her she had been eliminated and refused to give her a reason.

City auditions over and her contestant status secured, Tora returned home to prepare for American Idol. Knowing she would miss school, she obtained a GED and began a new job training program. However, once her boss found out she would be gone for a week, Tora was forced to resign. Other preparations included purchasing audition attire, vocal coaching and rehearsing music sent to her by the show. Numerous communications from FOX and Idol producers, including airline and hotel reservations received on November 21, confirmed Tora’s continued participation in the show.

In a statement to KMSB Fox 11 in Tucson, an Idol representative indicated there was a “red flag” on Tora’s background investigation which had led to her elimination. However, Tora’s information was fully disclosed to producers by October 20th, a full 6 weeks before she was cut. Tora’s mother recalls the phone call, “The producer was apologetic but said he didn’t know the reason for Tora’s elimination. He referred me to Fremantle Media.” Ms. Woloshin said she spoke with several people at Fremantle who refused to provide her with a reason. “I asked if it was something we had done wrong and was told that it was a casting decision and she was welcome to audition again next season. Why would they say that if there had been red flag?” Ms. Woloshin said they also refused to to tell her why the call came at the last hour. “They were very unsympathetic to the loss of school and a job." She added that if the show had eliminated Tora earlier, their lives could have gone back to normal. “I went beyond full disclosure, detailing issues I thought might be a concern. If Tora WAS red flagged, they could have called us much sooner.”

When Tora was asked what she thought about the elimination she responded, “The news would have been easier to take if they told me why. I have no idea if I’m suppose to do something different. They let a lot of people through and find out later that they're criminals. Those people lied on their background checks and they got through. I told the truth and was cut before I got there.” Tora’s mother is dismayed that show producers are sending this message to Idol hopefuls. “From a young person’s perspective
they might think they can get further by hiding issues that may not be appealing. I think you garner more respect by being honest and open about it. Tora’s issues were very minor in the scheme of things."

Although Tora was devastated by the American Idol decision to eliminate her just days before Hollywood, she refuses to give up on a career in music. Tora fronts a new rock band called Heartfelt Confessions, was featured in the Feb 23 issue of RollingStone Magazine and has extended her fan base to thousands of American Idol fans who support her.

The Sing Off Season 3 Episode 2 - Spoilers

Here are all of the spoilers for tonight's episode of The Sing Off!

The Sing-Off Contestants - Sing - Sounds like they stuffed the first episode with all the good groups. This is a trainwreck.

Dartmouth Aires - Higher Ground - There are way too many people in this group. It just doesn't work for me. Soloist was just okay too.

Pentatonix - E.T. - Pentatonix sounded pretty good doing Ke$ha's Blow in the preview video. I wish they were doing that instead. I love Pentatonix. I could listen to a whole album of this stuff. It really is a shame that this kind of group never wins. Probably my favorite performance of all 3 seasons.

Messiah's Men - People Get Ready - They have a good message, but it's just not my kind of thing.

Sonos - Wicked Game - Sonos is using effects pedals? Is that allowed? oh.. nevermind, they're not using them on the show. I didn't like the gum chewing effect at the begining of Sonos' song. But this is a cool arrangement and I like the soloist's voice.

FIRST HOUR RESULTS: First 2 safe: Dartmouth Aires and Pentatonix. Sonos is safe, Messiah's Men goes home.

The Collective - Rolling In The Deep - Obviously no on can ever sing this song like Adele, but The Collective is doing Rolling In The Deep pretty well. I take that back now that I heard the chorus. The whole thing just fell apart.

Soul'd Out - Let The Sunshine In - Soul'd Out is a decent group, but I really can't see them being any more exciting than this song, which is not very exciting at all.

North Shore - Runaround Sue - "This is our worst year yet" - North Shore on The Sing Off. I support North Shore because they are from Boston and they actually did a pretty good job, plus I like this song.

University of Delaware Deltones - Feels Like Home. Nice voice on the soloist, but she sounded nervous. Didn't feel like a GROUP, she stole the performance.

SECOND HOUR RESULTS: First 2 safe: North Shore and The Collective. The Deltones are safe, Soul'd out is going home.

Next week: Last week's 6 surviving groups perform 2 songs each. Including Ke$ha, Coldplay, Lady Gaga. Theme: Top 40 and the 1960s.

Here are the songs the new cast of The Sing Off will be singing tonight. 8 of 16 groups will perform:

The YellowJackets - Wavin' Flag - I didn't really like this performance. I found it to be sort of patronizing in a way. I don't they really conveyed the message of the song.

Fannin Family - Who Says - Totally amateur group. I was not feeling this one at all.

Afro Blue - Put Your Records On - Out of all the groups in the opening number, I liked Afro Blue the least, but the lead on this song was pretty good. The instrumentals seemed kind of weak though, like they learned to do this just for the show and it's not really who they are.

Delilah - Grenade - Delilah is a Sing Off super group made of girls from the last 2 seasons. The arrangement on this one was slower than the original. But it was seriously amazing. They'll make it to next week for sure.

ELIMINATION TIME. Delilah and Afro Blue are SAFE! The YellowJackets are SAFE and Fannin Family is going home.

Urban Method - Love The Way You Lie - This group manages to blend rap and a cappella perfectly. I didn't like how he was rapping and the girls were singing the chorus at the same time though. It just sounded messy.

The Cat's Pajamas - Some Kind Of Wonderful - Something about this group I just can't get behind. I like their pink shirts, but that's about it. Kind of boring if I'm being honest.

Kinfolk 9 - Secrets - I liked these guys, but I'd really like to hear their lead with a real band behind him.

Vocal Point - Jump Jive N Wail - These guys were just alright. I don't think I would mind if they went home however. That being said, I don't think they will.

ELIMINATION TIME. Vocal Point and Urban Method are SAFE! Kinfolk 9 is SAFE and The Cat's Pajamas is going home.

The Voice Episode 11 - Spoilers and Live Blog

Tonight is the final episode of The Voice Season 1. Javier Colon, Dia Frampton, Vicci Martinez or Beverly McClellan. Will be crowned The Voice.

Live blog:

Nice recap of last night's episode. Followed by the top 4 back stage on Jay Leno. That must have been fun for them! They got to sing with former American Idol music guy Ricky Minor!

Pat Monahan and Vicci Martinez are up first. Maybe they will sing kris Allen's The Truth. lol. They're singing Drops Of Jupiter. Pat Monahan is kind of awful, but Vicci makes up for it, a little Actually to be honest, this performance is kind of a mess.

Stevie Nicks and Javier Colon are up after the break. How are they going to fill this 2 hours?I was just informed it's only an hour. This show changes every week, I don't know what's going on sometimes. :P They're singing Landslide, this is a great song. And it sounds great.. you know on the album when it came out. Javier sounds great though. Alright, it was better than I thought it was at the beginning, but it's still a totally random pairing. Adam Levine admits that he's holding back the tears. He says it's one of the most beautiful duets he's ever heard in his life.

Ryan Tedder and Beverly McClellan perform next! They're singing Good Life by One Republic. I've never heard this song, I had to google it. Bev and Ryan hit a ton of bum notes. This is not a good performance. Worst of the whole season, it's too bad too, because I usually like Beverly.

A performance by Miranda Lambert and Dia Frampton is up next! I have been looking forward to this all episode! They're singing The House That Built me. Dia sounded a little raspy in the beginning, but she's coming back around. Best performance of the night, by far!

The top 2 were within 2% of each other. Dia is SAFE and in the top 2. Javier is SAFE and in the Top 2. Beverly and Vicci are eliminated. Ryan announces Dia #1 on iTunes and Javier #2.

The Voice Episode 10 - Spoilers and Live Blog

Tonight is the final performance episode of the Voice. The top 4 contestants will sing an "original song" and a duet with their judge.

Live Blog:

Adam, Blake, CeeLo and Christina sing Under Pressure. Carson says it was sort of a list minute thing, and you could kind of tell.

Javier Colon - Stitch by Stitch (NEW SONG!). Rodney Jerkins worked with Javier on this song. I wonder if Jimmy Iovine knows about this. This is not the best performance from Javier, I think he was a lot better last week with Fix You. [DOWNLOAD]

Dia Frampton / Blake Shelton - I Won't Back Down. Blake and Dia look cute in their matching outfits and sunglasses. Very blues brothers-y. It was a fun performance, and you can tell Blake really likes working with Dia. [DOWNLOAD]

Vicci Martinez - Afraid To Sleep (NEW SONG!). These original songs are not the best, but this might be Vicci's best performance vocally. [DOWNLOAD]

The Voice - How the points are determined.

A lot of people on twitter are asking how the points are determined. Well here you have it:

After the semifinals performances, both coach score and audience vote will determine which artists advance to the final performance round. Each coach will have 100 points to split between the two artists on his or her team. The number given to each artist is their "Coach Score." Each artist will also receive an "Audience Score" that reflects his or her share (or percentage) of total votes cast for the team. This number is calculated by dividing the votes the artist received by the total votes received by that artist's team. Each artist's "Coach Score" and "Audience Score" will be added, and the artist with the higher overall number on each team will advance to the final performance round.
For example: Artist A and Artist B from Sample Team receive 1,000,000 and 3,000,000 audience votes, respectively, for a total Sample Team vote of 4,000,000. This means Artist A's Audience Score is 75 (3,000,000 divided by 4,000,000), and Artist B's Audience Score is 25 (1,000,000 divided by 4,000,000). Assume Artist A receives a Coach Score of 55 and Artist B receives a Coach Score of 45 (for a total of 100 points). To determine who advances, combine the artists' respective Audience Scores and Coach Scores:

Artist A: 75 + 55 = 130
Artist B: 25 + 45 = 70

In this example, Artist A has the higher combined score and will advance to the finals.

The Beverly, Casey, Dia, Frenchie, Javier, Nakia, Vicci and Xenia are singing a George Michael Medley. I think Xenia might be better than Dia. Why didn't I notice this before? This is better than any Idol group song in the last 2 years.

Team CeeLo's Nakia and Vicci Martinez are up after the break. I think Nakia might pull through this one and make it to the finale. CeeLo's scores out of 100 Nakia-51 Vicci-49. Moving on, Vicci with 124 points! Nakia with 76 points will go home tonight.

CeeLo performs "Bright Lights Bigger City". That hair is something else, but the song was pretty chill.

Team Adam got to watch Adam and Gym Class Heroes rehearse their new song Stereo Hearts. But now it's time for their results. Javier Colon and Casey Weston. Adam gives his 100 points as follows: Casey 35 points Javier 65 points. Point totals: Casey 62 points Javier 138 points. Javier is moving on and Casey is going home tonight.

Blake took his team on the road with him to see one of his shows and gave them electric guitars. He asked Dia and Xenia on stage with him and they sang Honey Bee.Xenia looked more comfortable on stage at Blake's tour stop. Blake gave his points as follows: Dia 50 points, Xenia 50 points. Total points: Dia 106 Points, Xenia 94 Points. Dia is moving on and Xenia is going home tonight.

Episode 8 of The Voice airs tonight on NBC. The Final 8 members from Team Adam and Team Cee-Lo will perform. Adam and Cee-Lo will also perform with their teams! 4 Contestants from last week's performance will also be eliminated. The Judges will save one person from each team, and the votes will save one person from each team.

Before this weeks performance, we're getting last weeks results. Christina is up first! Raquel, Beverly, Lily and Frenchie are on stage. Beverly McClellan got the most votes and is moving on to the next round! Christina has to chose someone to save from the remaining 3.Christina picks Frenchie Davis to move on! Raquel and Lily are eliminated. Blake's results will be announced at the end of the show.

Voting for this year's American Idol country showdown of Lauren vs. Scotty is over, and we're just a few hours away from seeing the winner. But one site thinks they have the winner predicted already.

DialIdol.com uses the busy signals from the voting phone numbers to try and predict who is getting the least amount of votes. While through the season they have not always been correct in their predictions, there is one particular episode where they have never been wrong. The finale. Let's take a look at all the finale predictions since Season 4, leading up to this year's predicted winner:

Will Haley Replace Lauren on American Idol tonight?

Lauren Alaina may not get her shot to be the next "American Idol" because she has lost her voice ...spies on the set tell TMZ ... and it could be the break of a lifetime for Haley Reinhart

We're told during the rehearsal this afternoon, Lauren -- who has been losing her voice -- was supposed to sing three songs. She got through the first, struggled through the second and was unable to perform the third.

Our spies say a doctor on the set has ordered Lauren not to sing or speak, but there is a "real possibility" she will not be able to perform on tonight's show.

We're told if Lauren is unable to perform, producers will reinstate the third place finisher -- Haley Reinhart who will then compete against Scotty McCreery for the title.

Producers are trying to find Haley right now

TMZ broke the story ... Lauren lost her voice and could not finish rehearsing for tonight's finale.

Producers have brought Haley Reinhart to the set and she is currently in wardrobe. If Lauren can't compete, Haley will square off against Scotty McCreery for the title.

We're told Haley just finished rehearsing, and if she does compete tonight she'll sing 3 songs -- "House of the Rising Sun," "I Who Have Nothing" and "Bennie and the Jets."

9 American Idol Season 10 Changes That Never Happened.

Season 10 of American Idol is coming to a close. As I look back on all this season's episodes, I got to thinking, what happened to all the changes we were promised back in January? Here is a rundown of some of the changes that were in store for season 10

What was promised: Elimination rounds will move faster than previous seasons, with the Top 24 being trimmed down to either a Top 12 or Top 15. Producers have still not decided on a final number, although viewer voting will still play a major part in the semi-finals.
What actually happened: The semi finals carried on as normal with contestants being cut from 40 to 24 and then to 13.

What was promised: The online voting process is also undergoing some changes. A one-click voting structure is in the works and there is a possibility that voters could access bonus content from the show after their votes are cast.
What actually happened: Online voting at AmericanIdol.com via facebook and captcha. Not quite one click, but this was a big change for the season.

What was promised: A new Idol Mansion will be used for contestant living arrangements.
What actually happened: The contestants moved into a mansion for a few weeks, however the "mansion" was in disrepair and they soon moved out an into a hotel.

What was promised: Music videos might be integrated into the show this season, for the contestants to display their acting abilities along with their voices.
What actually happened: This just plain didn't happen. The ford music videos are still in place as they always have been, with no new music videos or "acting".

What was promised: Music releases from the contestants will also come much quicker this season, with the artists releasing new tracks as the season carries on.
What actually happened: Other than the normal iTunes releases from week to week, the only song to have been recorded and released by an eliminated contestant is Chris Medina's 'What Are Words'.

What was promised: Theme Weeks are going through an overhaul as well, with songs selected that will more properly suit a contestant's voice. "We’re not going to ask a country singer to sing an R&B song, or an R&B singer to do Led Zeppelin,” says Interscope/Geffen/A&M music exec Jimmy Iovine, who will help mentor the hopefuls. “If the theme is ’80s or Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, every song will be customized to that contestant.”
What actually happened: Very specific themes such as "Elton John", "Carole King" and "Leiber and Stoller" are still popping up and forcing the contestants so sing songs not suited to their voices.

What was promised: No more guest mentors and a bigger focus on the contestants.
What actually happened: In a year of "no more mentors" we have had Will.i.am, Miley Cyus, Lady Gaga, and Sheryl Crow among others. Results are still held, for the most part, in the last 5-10 minutes of the results show.

What was promised: Contestants will be able to sing original songs on stage.
What actually happened: This was only an option in the top 40 airplane hanger round which was not entirely shown on TV.

What was promised: 30 minute results shows.
What actually happened: 60 minute results shows.

Eurovision 2011 - Reality Show Connections!

Eurovision 2011 has come and gone. This year's winners are Ell/Nikki of Azerbaijan. They're song Running Scared is great, a very deserving win!

As I'm sure a lot of you know. The Idol and X Factor formats are popular world wide, and some of this year's Eurovision contenders are the product of such shows. Let's take a look!

Katy Wolf was a finalist on "X Faktor" in Hungary. She placed 22nd on this year's Eurovision with her song "What About My Dreams?"

Loukas Giorkas won X Factor in Greece and performed "Watch My Dance" with Mihalis Exarhos aka Stereo Mike, bringing them to 7th place on this year's Eurovision.

Nadine Beiler was the winner of Austria's Starmania in 2007 and went on to place 18th with "The Secret Is Love".

Poli Genova failed to make it past the Eurovision semi finals with her song "На инат" however she is currently a singer on Dancing with the Stars: Bulgaria.

Dana International's song "Ding Dong" did not get past the semi finals this time around. Dana had previously won Eurovision back in 1998. Dana is now a judge on the Israeli version of Idol, Kokhav Nolad.

Maja Keuc placed 13th on Eurovision this year with her song "No One". Maja previously placed 2nd on Slovenia's Got Talent.

Getter Jaani performed "Rockefeller Street" putting her into 24th place on this year's Eurovision. She placed 4th on Eesti otsib superstaari, Estonian Idol.

Jedward is perhaps the most well known of the group, placing 8th with there song "Lipstick". Jedward placed 6th on X Factor UK.

I don't know if this rivals her Idol performance of Band Of Gold, but Frenchie really did great. Tarralyn is clearly the weaker of the two in this performance. Christina picks Frenchie to move on and sends Tarralyn home. [DOWNLOAD]

Patrick Thomas vs. ~~Tyler Robinson~~ - Burnin' Love. Tyler Robinson looks like he should be a Warbler. Patrick Thomas isn't really doing anything for me on this one, but Tyler isn't bringing enough power, he's getting drowned out by the music. This is a tough call. Cee-Lo and Adam pick Tyler, but their votes don't count. Blake chooses Patrick, the country guy, no surprise there. [DOWNLOAD]

~~Tim Mahoney~~ vs. Casey Weston - Leather and Lace. Casey sounds a little shaky, maybe she's nervous? That vibrato is pretty strong. Tim has a really similar sound to Casey, same vibrato and everything. I can see why Adam put them together. I can't say I liked one more than the other. Blake likes Casey, and Cee-Lo liked Tim. Vicci Martinez vs. ~~Niki Dawson~~ - Perfect. Niki Dawson's got some tails on tonight. Taking fashion tips from James Durbin? This is the best performance of the season so far. American Idol Top 4 - Leiber & Stoller

Finally America got it right this week and sent Jacob Lusk packing. So now it's time to talk about the Top 4. The theme for next week is Leiber & Stoller. They mostly wrote hits from the 50s, which is pretty dated for American Idol. But the show must go on. I assume each contestant will sing 2 songs next week, so I picked 2 for each contestant, but this is not confirmed. Also, Lady Gaga will mentor the contestants.

Cherie Oakley - Gunpowder & Lead - This girl wrote a song for Reba, which went #1 and she toured with Carrie Underwood. This song is sung by Blake's wife(?) Miranda Lambert. Christina is the only judge to turn around. [DOWNLOAD]

Devon Barley - I'm Yours - This guy looks like an older Kevin Covais. He's just as mediocre as Kevin was, too. Cee-Lo turns around, followed by Adam. He chooses Adam. [DOWNLOAD]

Joshua Scott Hand - Paparazzi - I have never heard someone whine this much while singing. The crowd was a little into it, but no judges turned around.

Raquel Castro - Bleeding Love - I'm not sold on this girl. I like the coaches trying to convince the others to buzz in. Christina is the only one that takes her. People on twitter are saying Raquel was in the movie "Jersey Girl". [DOWNLOAD]

Idol360 Interview With Kris Allen at Berklee City Music

Kris Allen is teaming up with Music Empowers and the Berklee City Music Network for a three city tour starting today in New York, followed by a show tomorrow in Philadelphia and concluding with a stop in Washington DC on Thursday.

Music Empowers helps bring music education and instruction to students in places where it otherwise might not exist or is severely underdeveloped. Together with Berklee City Music Kris is helping provide music education to 4th to 12th graders in under-served communities. These kids will get the tools and support they need to flourish as students, musicians, and confident, well-rounded individuals ready to shape their world.

Annie and I had the chance to sit down with Kris at the Berklee City Music Completion Ceremony yesterday afternoon, where Kris was performing with these amazing students.

The Voice opens with an amazing performance from the panel. Christina, Adam, Blake and Cee-Lo singing Crazy.

Tarralyn Ramsey - Breathe. I didn't think she was very good at first, but she brought it together. It took a while but Christina and Cee Lo turn around. She Chooses Christina [DOWNLOAD]

Patrick Thomas - Live Like You Were Dying - Cee-Lo and Adam turn around first, this guy sings circles around Scotty on American Idol. Christina asks him to take his hat, then his pants off. [DOWNLOAD]

Jared Blake - Good Girls Go Bad - This is awesome, a great new take on a cool song. I was so surprised no one took him. I loved it! [DOWNLOAD]

Vicci Martinez - Rolling In The Deep - Rolling In The Deep. Kind of shaky vocals at first, but I like her grittyness. Cee-Lo and Christina turn around. She picks Cee-Lo. [DOWNLOAD]

Kelsey Rey -American Boy - She was alright, but she didn't blow me away. I prefer Lee's group song version to be honest. Cee-Lo, Christina and Adam turned around, and she chose Cee-Lo. [DOWNLOAD]

Jeff Jenkins - God Bless The Broken Road. This guy is great. Adam and Cee-Lo buzz in almost immediately then Christina gets in on the action. Blake buzzes in at the last minute. Adam has never heard that song before? He picked Adam, and Christina looks pissed. [DOWNLOAD]

Rebecca Loebe - Come As You Are - I am getting a bit of a Rachel Zevita vibe from this girl. Also Nicole Atkins, whom I love. Christina and Adam buzz in for her. [DOWNLOAD]

American Idol Top 11 (Redux) - Studio Versions

Just like last week, I'll be reviewing the iTunes studio versions of all the Idol's songs. I'm going to listen to them all and run down my opinions as I listen for the first time! (Click on the song titles to download and listen along with me! Or get them all with one click.)

Casey Abrams – Your Song - I think this is the first time Casey's studio recording was just as good or better than his live performance. Although I hope he doesn't stay this reserved for the rest of the competition. He had to this week because of what happened last time, but I kind of miss fun crazy Casey.

Haley Reinhart – Bennie and the Jets - Haley is turning out to be one of the best in this whole competition. But I'm not sure if I should give her dark horse status just yet. However if this recording is a sign of things to come, Haley should have no problem making it to at least the top 5. I think she has the most radio friendly voice in the competition aside from maybe Lauren.

Jacob Lusk – Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word - I have mixed feelings about Jacob. He's got a great voice, but it's not really my style of music so I find it hard to root for him, because I know if he wins (which he probably wont) that I won't listen to his album more than once. So yeah, it was a good song and all, but he needs to be a little more contemporary.

James Durbin – Saturday Night’s Alright (for Fighting) - James is more suited for Arena Rock than for the radio I think. He's an excellent performer, but that's including the visuals such as a flaming piano, which obviously don't come across in this recording. That being said, this is probably one of James' best performances so far.

Lauren Alaina – Candle in the Wind - Another great recording by Lauren. With the right songs, I could see her doing well in the music business. This song shows that she can sing, and now that that's out of the way, she should be free to rock out next week. I think she can, and should!

Naima Adedapo – I’m Still Standing -This accent and arrangement is just corny. Naima has turned this competition into a joke. Being "yourself" is fine, but "herself" doesn't have a Jamaican accent, so that's clearly not who she really is. Awful.

Paul McDonald – Rocket Man - The arrangement for this recoding is really neat. And I know I say it every week, but Paul's voice is pretty much amazing. Sure, maybe he doesn't hit every note, but he still sounds awesome. This probably tops my list of favorite Paul performances this year.

Pia Toscano – Don’t Let the Sun Go Down for Me - Pia's vocals are always flawless. Even to the point where I don't mind if she sings a ballad every week. She is however getting to the Catherine McPhee territory, and even though the came in 2nd, we all see how well that turned out for her. Pia, don't let Kara write any songs for you.

Scotty McCreery – Country Comfort -I don't like Scotty, he doesn't sing the kind of music I like. I THINK he's a good country singer, but I don't know anything about country music.

Stefano Langone – Tiny Dancer - I'm not sure what happened to Stefano. He used to have a smooth powerful voice, but now it's kind of sounding nasaly and weak. With a little work he might be able to sound like a bootleg Bruno Mars, but I don't think he has that much time left on Idol.

Thia Megia – Daniel - Thia is another girl that needs to just let loose and go all out. She does have a beautiful voice, but she's kind of getting robotic now. Someone should reprogram her to sing a more upbeat song.

Casey Abrams - I Heard It Through The Grapevine - This is Casey's strongest studio performance yet. He really shines on this one. I could see a rock song in this style doing well on the radio today. Hopefully maybe some day he'll actually be there for the group photo and they won't need to paste his head in.

Haley Reinhart - You've Really Got A Hold On Me - I don't like Haley, but I love her. She has a nice voice and she shows in this recording that she has soul too. It's a shame she doesn't have more fans because I think she could record a great album if she were to win.

Jacob Lusk - You're All I Need To Get By - Jacob manages to turn in a decent studio recording this week, even if the backup singers sound like robots. There's not disputing the fact that Jacob can sing, but I don't think a voice like his would get any radio play in any markets. He might be fun to see live, but I can't picture him being a pop star with songs like this. But I also might be a little biased because I like Kelly Clarkson's version of this song so much better.

James Durbin - Living For The City - I don't remember this song having this much of a rock edge on the show last night (That's not necessarily a good thing). This performance sounds kind of lazy, he didn't hit most of his notes on the show last night, and even on the studio version the vocals are not anything special. I'm hoping to see him improve next week.

Lauren Alaina - You Keep Me Hangin' On - This song is a kiss of death on Idol. Most of the people who sang this song went home that same week. Lauren doesn't really do anything special with it this week, other than being a better singer. One thing that bugs me is the talky "and there aint nothing I can do about it" part is so over processed that it sounds like a robot. Other than that, it's a pretty solid, yet generic, performance.

Naima Adedapo - Dancing In The Street - I always dislike Naima's live performances, but she continues to impress me with her studio versions. I want to say that you need to be able to sing live to be a famous pop star, but sadly that isn't really the case anymore. The arrangement on this song is horrendous with little, I don't know, scat breaks randomly inserted. Naima seems to rely on gimmicks and she needs to cut it out in my opinion, it really makes the songs unlistenable. If it was just her singing I would be okay with this track, but that bugs me.

Paul McDonald - Tracks Of My Tears - This is an awesome track, probably the best of the bunch this week. Paul has an amazingly unique and powerful voice and is the prefect candidate to be the next American Idol. Some people (myself included) thought Adam Lambert fans would be upset that Paul was singing "Adam's song" but you can't really compare the two, they both did amazing with this one.

Pia Toscano - All In Love Is Fair - Pia is flawless. She's gorgeous, and an amazing singer. I will really be surprised if she doesn't win the whole thing (even if I not so secretly want Paul to win). There is not much more to say about Pia, except that maybe she should try singing an upbeat song next week. But then again, if it aint broke, don't fix it.

Scotty McCreery - For One In My Life - If this performance wasn't horrendous enough to begin with, the country night club dance beat isn't helping him. I couldn't even finish it. Moving on.

Stefano Langone - Hello - Some people call this song "untouchable" after David Cook's performance. While it might not be as good as the David Cook version, Stefano hold's his own on with this Performance. He sounds like he is straining at times however. Maybe he's still spooked because of the ghosts in the Idol house.

Thia Megia - (Love Is Like A) Heat Wave - Sounds like a typical uninspired cover song, she didn't do anything special and it sounds like it had a lot of studio work done to it. I think Thia's time on in this competition is almost up.

Thailand's Got Talent - "Duet"

This video was too good not to post. This Taiwanese beauty sings both the male and female parts of a duet. You have to see it to believe it! Amazing!

Translation:
1st Judge - You fooled me right from the moment we met. How is it possible??
2nd Judge - She is pretty right?
Crowd - Yes very pretty...
2nd Judge - I have to say that she had talent too. I had a shock on the 2nd part of the song everyone were like Hey! What do you think?
3rd Judge - I still believe in my instinct. My sensor said that she isn't like what I saw. When she started singing I thought I was wrong but on the 2nd part of the song I know that my instinct was right from the start.
2nd Judge - I am so jealous, the two male host knew me for 10 yrs and never hug me before.

Kelly Clarkson - Why Won't You Try

Kelly Clarkson premiered her new song "Why Won't You Try" live at Celebrity Fight Night. This song was written by singer/songwriter Eric Hutchinson. I love it and can't wait to hear the rest of her album. Kelly's album will be released September 2011.

Frenchie Davis to appear on NBC's The Voice

We have just learned that disqualified American Idol contestant Frenchie Davis has been selected as a contestant on NBC's The Voice. She was chosen by Christina Aguilera after singing I Kissed A Girl by Katy Perry, while Adam Levine, Cee-Lo Green and Blake Shelton all passed on her. Frenchie was disqualifed from American Idol's 2nd season shortly after making it past the Hollywood round due to topless photos surfacing on the internet.

NBC's The Voice - Audience Report

The new NBC show "The Voice" started filming yesterday and @MYIDOLTOWN was there to watch it all go down. Here is their account from their twitter page (edited from many tweets):

A previous American Idol contestant that missed making the voting rounds MADE IT THROUGH on The Voice!!! I was there ALL MORNING NOON & NIGHT YESTERDAY for the taping, half of the Top 60 performed for the audience & judges trying to get picked by 1 of the coaches: Blake, Christina, Cee-Lo or Adam In Order To REMAIN in the Competition! Each coach can only pick 8 contestants to be on their individual teams, sort of like The X-Factor format in some ways. Coaches don't know what they look like at first. The audience can see the contestants but the coaches can't, until they press the button wanting them on their team! They base their decisions on the voice alone before appearance is revealed. Very fun, interesting & great talent! So much can be said christina wore a black dress & always took her shoes off during breaks. The coaches were pretty funny ALL through the tape day! The other half of Top 60 compete today! 30 People - Not very many spots left, just 3 spots left for Adam's team!

According to MyIdolTown, they are actually paying people $40 to bring 3 people with them to the taping to fill the audience. She also says "Christina Aguilera has a familiar singing competition face & name she'll coach!" but is not willing to give up the contestants name at this point. I guess we'll have to wait and see when The Voice premiers on Tuesday, April 26th on NBC.

Casey Abrams - Smells Like Teen Spirit - Some of the vocal audio on this sounds funny, like it was recorded on a cellphone. Just like last week his intense live performance doesn't really translate to the studio version. And what's with the horns?

Haley Reinhart - I'm Your Baby Tonight - The arrangement on this sounds like a Sonic The Hedgehog level. Haley is growing on me week after week. I was actually pretty nervous to see her in the bottom 3 tonight. I'd like to see her stick around for a while. This was a good song, but the jazzy ending just doesn't seem to fit.

Jacob Lusk - Alone - I'm kind of sick of hearing this song on Idol. It's a good song, but it's way over done and seems to always get over sung. I used to like Jacob, but he's losing it more and more every week. And these arrangements with the clapping track and the hip hop style beats are just getting cheesy.

James Durbin - I'll Be There For You - This was actually pretty good. I think I like James a lot better when I don't have to look at that stupid hair and bandanna.

Karen Rodriguez - Love Will Lead You Back - I've been a fan of Karen for a while. She's good at singing this type of song. I'll probably buy her CD should she ever release one, based on her 2 studio recordings.

Lauren Alaina - I'm The Only One - Lauren has a little bit of everything. She's a good pop singer with a nice little country twang. This is much much better than her last studio recording. She kind of reminds me of like, a country Jordin Sparks. She's not amazing, but she'll probably win regardless.

Naima Adedapo - What's Love Got To Do With It - This is like Rihanna meets Tina Turner. Naima's live performances are nothing special, but her studio recordings are pretty good. I just that's no different that most pop stars these days. After listening to these recordings, I think that maybe the right person did go home this week.

Paul McDonald - I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues - For me, this will always be an Alex Wagner-Trugman jam. But really, I love Paul and this song really suits his unique voice. I'd love to see him really rock out next week though.

Pia Toscano - Where Do Broken Hearts Go - This was awesome, and I really liked the dancey beat it had. Pia really has a great shot at winning this whole thing. I never really pictured Pia winning until right now. She's a really really good fit for this show.

Scotty McCreery - Can I Trust You With My Heart - I'm just going to copy and paste what I said last week. If you follow me on twitter you'll know that I don't like Scotty all that much. It's not that I think he's a BAD singer it's just that I don't like his kind of country music and I don't know much about it. I think he'll do very well on country radio no matter how far he makes it on Idol, which is why we should vote him off as soon as possible.

Stefano Langone - If You Don't Know Me By Now - This was just boring. It's a "typical American Idol song". It sounds nice, he didn't screw anything up. It's just there, and the next time it comes up on shuffle I'll probably skip it. He needs to step it up next week.

Thia Megia - Colors Of The Wind - So what if Thia is a robot? She can sing Disney every week, just because I like Disney songs. I can't wait to hear her sing I Just Can't Wait To Be King next week. Oh, and she was born in 1995. 1995! That makes me feel so old.

Casey Abrams Hospitalized Once Again

For the 2nd time this season Casey Abrams has been taken to the hospital and will not appear on tonight's results show. He is also not pictured in this photo from tonight's group song rehearsal. From joesplaceblog:

My sources are telling me that American Idol Contestant (And MY Personal favorite) will not be in attendance for tonight’s Top 13 Results Show. He is back in the Hospital again. I have not been able to accurately determine what is wrong with Casey – however Casey is making no big deal about his health situation. Not since Season One’s Christina Christian has a contestant missed a results show because of a hospital stay. Christina got voted off that night. Let’s pray that the same fate does not happen to the amazing Casey Abrams.

UPDATE: It seems that whenever Casey gets stressed out he has stomach bleeding – not sure if it is an actual bleeding ulcer (though that’s what it sounds like). Casey has been staying in a separate room from the other Idols so he could rest. To my source, Casey is NOT making a big deal out of this at all. Poor kid. Nineteen years old and a bleeding ulcer.

UPDATE: At 12:10 AM (EST) Casey tweeted: hey guys, thanks for the well wishes, I got some nice fresh blood in me and feeling better. People at Idol & Cedars are treatin me real good

American Idol Top 13 - Studio Versions

The Studio versions of the Top 13 performances went live on iTunes today. With the inclusion of top tier music producers this season, I am excepting some great recordings. I'm going to listen to them all and run down my opinions as I listen for the first time! (Click on the song titles to download and listen along with me! Or get them all with one click.)

Casey Abrams - With A Little Help From My Friends - I'm not sure what they did to his voice in the editing room, but the studio version lost all of the grit and growl that I love in Casey's live performances. I still like it, but I think they over produced him here.

Naima Adedapo - Umbrella -This is a million times better than the live performance. This could be on the radio right now and may even trump Rihanna's version. The little reggae breakdown is a nice touch too. If only she could harness this energy and bring it to the stage.

Lauren Alaina - Any Man Of Mine -This is NOT Lauren's best, I think she can and will do better. I love Lauren, but the more I hear from her the less I love her. She's sounding more like Pickler than Underwood at this point. Not that that's a bad thing, but this is just not what I expected from her.

James Durbin - Maybe I'm Amazed - I'm amazed that I actually liked this performance. I went into this thing not liking James, but this song turned it around for me. I could see this doing well on the radio. The studio version is a little more reserved than his live performances. He's better when he doesn't scream so much, and there is not a lot of this in this song. James could be a rock star this summer if he keeps it up.

Ashthon Jones - When You Tell Me That You Love Me - I love this song and this version is actually pretty good. I don't think anyone can touch the Season 4 group song version, but this is pretty close for me. Some parts sound a bit rushed, but that might be because of the more uptempo arrangement of this performance. I think Ashthon really has potential to be a relevant recording artist.

Stefano Langone - Lately - The first minute or so into this has a real jazzy kind of sound, then around 1:10 the beat drops in and it gets a little weird. The vocals are not changed so much from the way we are used to hearing this song so the bumping beat feels kind of tacked on. With a little more tweaking and remixing I think this could become a cool club banger, but as it is right now I'm not quite feeling it.

Jacob Lusk - I Believe I Can Fly - I can't picture Jacob being on Top 40 radio. he's got a nice voice on the live shows, but I almost could not bear to finish listening to this song after the 1:30 mark. I think you need to see Jacob singing and get the full package to really get his music, it doesn't seem to translate well to the studio.

Paul McDonald - Come Pick Me Up - This was my favorite performance last night and it's probably going to be my favorite studio song of the week. Paul has a unique voice, there's never been anyone on Idol like him and that's why he deserves to win. This song is just what I expected from Paul on Idol and it did not disappoint.

Thia Megia - Smile - Thia seems like a nice girl, but this song is nothing sepcial. It sounds nice but I can't see myself (or anyone for that matter) ever listening to it more than once. The jazzy arrangement was pretty cool I guess, but I just don't get what she's trying to do. Not quite on the Thia train just yet.

Haley Reinhart - Blue - Until I heard this mp3, I didn't really think she had a chance, but I like this studio version a lot. Her voice is kind of charming and she's pretty good at those yodels. I'd keep an eye out on her to make it pretty far in the competition if she keeps recording songs that sound this good.

Karen Rodriguez - I Could Fall In Love - I think you can only sing in Spanish and pander to Jennifer Lopez so much before America will start to get sick of it. It was pretty cool when she did it the first time on Hero, but it's already kind of getting old. That being said, I think Karen has an amazing voice on this one. She could be right up there with J Lo, Celene Dion and the rest of them with the right songs.

Pia Toscano - All By Myself - I think Pia is the girl to beat this year. She's pretty much amazing with every song she sings. Even with everything nice I said about Karen, this song makes Karen's song sound like Paris Hilton's latest effort compared to Pia. Her vocals are perfect, I just wish she picked a better song.

Paul McDonald - The Grand Magnolias & Hightide Blues

Top 24 contestant Paul McDonald recently released a cd with his band "The Grand Magnolias", and it is seriously amazing. Paul sang part of his song "American Dreams" on the recent Vegas episode. If this is what this season has in store, I can't wait. I urge everyone to check this CD out and keep an eye out for Paul on Tuesday's episode, it's gonna be great!

American Idol Top 40 - MP3 - Not shown on TV!

We have mp3s of all of the Top 24's Top 40 performances. If you don't remember, this was the episode when they picked the Top 24 in the airplane hangar. For some reason they decided not to show these performances on television. I listened to all 24 of these songs, and they are some of the most amazing performances I have ever heard on Idol, it's really a shame that they didn't show them on TV. there is not one horrible performance in the bunch. Casey Abrams Hospitalized

TMZ reports the following:

Casey Abrams one of the top 24 finalists on "American Idol" -- was rushed to a hospital moments ago after complaining of severe stomach pains ... TMZ has learned.

Sources connected to the show tell us ... 19-year-old Abrams was rehearsing at CBS Television City when he began to feel sick.

We're told Abrams was taken to a nearby hospital -- where he's expected to stay overnight ... possibly longer.

And it gets worse -- now that Abrams has made the top 24, he's scheduled to tape a performance on Friday ... along with the rest of the top 12 men. But if Abrams is not well enough to take the stage on Friday, we're told he will be eliminated from the competition.

Abrams is currently being examined by doctors.
