My opinions on the top 12

Posted by Flea On 8:46 AM 1 comments

The semifinals came and went, and now we're stuck with a mediocre (at best) Top 12. Sure there are a few AMAZING singers in this bunch. But over the last three weeks, I think 5 people got sent home that deserve a spot in the top 12, 4 of them being the 4 people cut last night. In a perfect world the top 12 would look something like this:

Someone once told me that you can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you get what you need. And I AM TRYING. What I need are good singers in the top 12. And it seems almost everyone I talk to on twitter feels the same way! I do have HIGH HOPES for some of this year's top 12. I LOVE Crystal, Didi, Michael and Siobhan. But the rest of them are just EH performers, nothing special. Last year the top 13 was STUFFED full of AMAZING PERFORMERS. Say what you want about Danny Gokey and even Michael Sarver, but they could sing circles around this year's batch of guys and not even break a sweat. There's not a Kris, Adam or Allison in the bunch.

But, I love American Idol and will continue to watch. The summer tour is another story.

Twitter is going CRAZY over tonight's eliminations. Almost everyone thinks they got it wrong! Voice your opinion here!

Top 16 - Results Show LIVE BLOG

Posted by Flea On 7:18 PM 1 comments

Tonight is the night that we find out our Top 12! Who is everyone picking to go home? In the pools I am in, I picked Andrew, Aaron, Paige and Katie.

Tonight's group song is Haven't Met You Yet by Michael Buble. And tonight's guests are Scott MacIntyre and Matt Giraud.

Top 16 opens the show with Michael Buble's "Haven't Met You Yet". I loved it!

Ryan officially announces the theme for the Top 12. The Rolling Stones!

RESULTS TIME!

Didi: TOP 12!
Siobhan: TOP 12!
Paige: TOP 12!
Katelyn: ELIMINATED!

Katelyn sings "I Feel The Earth Move". I think she sounded great. I am so shocked! This is not what I expected at all.

Tim: TOP 12!
Todrick: ELIMINATED!
Lee: TOP 12!
Casey: TOP 12!

Todrick sings "Somebody To Love". I liked Todrick, I think Tim should have gone home, but it is not as shocking at Katelyn leaving.

Matt Giruad and Scott MacIntyre sing Tell Her About It. This was supposed to be performed on last years Finale, but was cut at the last minute. They were good, but I have to say, they were better live!

Buy HEARTSTRINGS By Scott MacIntyre on Amazon.com or Scott Douglas MacIntyre
Buy YOU DON'T KNOW ME by Matt Giraud on Amazon.com or Anna Wilson - You Don't Know Me

Crystal: TOP 12!
Michael: TOP 12!
Lacey: TOP 12!
Aaron: TOP 12! (DO NOT WANT)
Alex: ELIMINATED!
Andrew: TOP 12!

Alex sings Trouble. I think he deserved a spot in the Top 12 over Aaron. Please don't cry Siobhan ;___;

Katie: TOP 12! (WHAT THE HELL)
Lilly: ELIMINATED (I AM PISSED)

Lilly sings "I Fall To Pieces". I am pissed. America got EVERYTHING WRONG TONIGHT.

So, our top 12 is Didi, Siobhan, Paige, Tim, Lee, Casey, Crystal, Michael, Lacey, Aaron, Andrew and Katie. This is NOT AT ALL what I expected. Maybe I should start voting!

This was the WORST ever episode of American Idol. I am so angry.

Greetings,

This week was much more entertaining than last week!

Let’s start with the girls:

I’m just going to come out and say Katie and Paige are going home.

Something about the girls this year is putting me to sleep. My favorites of the week were Siobhan and Crystal. Yet Siobhan just seems so awkward to me. She almost has crazy “I will cut you” eyes. And Crystal needs a huge slice of humble pie. She seems shamelessly cocky up there, and despite the fact that she did awesome this week, her attitude and decision to sit on her amp during the judging really turned me off.

With all that being said, we can see the top 6 girls taking shape, and there are still some great voices in this competition, like Didi and Katelyn.

And now the fellas:

I liked the guys performances much more than the girls this week.

Honestly, there wasn’t a single performance that I didn’t like. And that makes it very difficult to predict who may be going home.

Despite what the judges said, I thought Andrew did great. And I wish they would never ever mention “Straight Up” again, for the rest of the year.

Michael shocked me with that performance. Before the episode started, he was one of the contestants that I thought would struggle to garner votes. I wish he would’ve started out with more falsetto during the 1st verse, but he killed it towards the end!

For the 3rd week in a row, I’m going to predict that Tim Urban is going home. Yes, he was much improved this week, but he’s still the weakest vocalist. And my second selection to get voted off is Todrick. He’s actually one of my favorites, but I just don’t see America connecting with what he’s trying to do up there. He’s not your standard R&B singer, and I actually appreciate him for that, but I can see why so many just don’t get it.

Gotta say I was pretty bummed to see my boy John Park get booted last week. I was rooting for him.

I’m excited to see who cracks the top 12! Are you???

PK

We have some spoilers from boys night thanks to @blkeener on twitter and Joes Place Blog!

I am turning this spoilers post into my live blog post! Keep an eye on this post for all of tonight's judges comments, and some of my own!

Lee Dewyze - "Fireflies" by Owl City - I love seeing current music on Idol. Lee did his thing on this song, it didn't sound anything like the original but that's okay. I liked it! Randy says he made it work. Ellen says he made it rock. Kara says he looks confident, and that he made it a better song. Simon says there was nothing to rave about. Lee says he had fun. (Download on iTunes)

Alex Lambert - "Trouble" by Ray LaMontagne - I don't think he was as good as last week, but he did pretty good. I look forward to seeing more from him. Randy says he could have done more with the song. Ellen says he is getting better every week. Kara says he needs to be less stiff and let go. Simon says he need to relax. (Download on iTunes)

Tim Urban - "Hallelujah" by Jeff Buckley - I was never a Tim Urban fan, but this was his best performance to date. Is it enough to break into the top 12? Randy says he did a pretty good job. Ellen says it was fantastic and runs on stage to give him a hug. Kara says he could be on top of the boys right now. Simon says it was terrific. (Download on iTunes)

Andrew Garcia - "Genie In A Bottle" by Christina Aguilera - Risky song choice, but I think he pulled it off. Even if hearing him sing some of those lyrics was a little creepy. Randy says he had no range. Ellen says it was surprising. Kara says she was disappointed, it was not great. Simon says that it was desperate. Also, STOP TALKING ABOUT STRAIGHT UP. (Download on iTunes)

Casey James - "You’ll Think of Me" by Keith Urban - Good. Not great, but I liked it. Randy says it was a safe choice. Ellen says it was great. Kara says it was better than last week, but is missing the "spark". Simon says it was his 2nd best performance, says he was sincere. (Download on iTunes)

Aaron Kelly - "I’m Already There" by Lonestar - HORRIBLE. Bad. Not good. Please be going home tomorrow. Randy says it was really good. Ellen says it was "real", but not terrific. Kara says he could not connect to the song. Simon said it was not a great vocal, but it had emotion. (Download on iTunes)

Todrick Hall - "Somebody To Love" by Queen - Todrick and his giant backup singers did great. But if the judges say anything about him not making it his own, I am going to punch someone. Randy says TODRICK IS BACK. Ellen says he is brave for singing that song, and did a good job. Kara says it was good singing, but it was dramatic. Simon says it was good in parts, but was like a Broadway performance. (Download on iTunes)

Michael Lynche - "This Woman’s Work" by Maxwell - I am getting some real Ruben vibes from Michael. The song was kind of boring, but he sang it well. Randy says it was dope. Ellen says it was beautiful. Kara is in tears, says it's amazing. Simon says he 100% nailed it, says it was the best performance of the season so far. (Download on iTunes)

My picks to go home: Tim and Aaron

Top 16 - Girls Night

Posted by Flea On 7:10 PM 0 comments
It's girls night on American Idol! Keep an eye on this post for up to the minute updates on all the happenings of tonight's episode!

Katie Stevens - "Breakaway" by Kelly Clarkson - (Download on iTunes) - Not that great, I was never a huge Katie fan, I wont mind if she leaves this week, which I think she might after that performance. Randy says the song is too big for her. Ellen says she didn't see any personality. Kara says she has a great radio voice, but doesn't believe in herself. Simon says she is taking the judges advice, but doesn't know what kind of artist she wants to be.

Siobhan Magnus - "House Of The Rising Sun" by The Animals - (Download on iTunes) - Absolutely BEAUTIFUL. This is the winner of American Idol right here! Randy says to keep doing what she is doing, because it's hot. Ellen says it moved her. Kara says she loved the a capella at the beginning. Simon says he was not a fan of the performance, says it was weird.

Lacey Brown - "The Story" by Brandi Carlile - (Download on iTunes) - Better than last week, but I don't think this is enough to put her into the top 12. Randy says it was her best performance in a long time. Ellen says it was her best performance to date. Kara says it was effortless singing. Simon says she sang the song really well.

Katelyn Epperly - "I Feel The Earth Move" by Carole King - (Download on iTunes) - She sang the song well, but it was a very typical American Idol performance, not special like when she sang The Scientist last week. Randy says he didn't feel the vibe. Ellen says she didn't wow. Kara says she doesn't know what happened. Simon says she didn't do anything special with the song.

Didi Benami - "Rhiannon" by Fleetwood Mac - (Download on iTunes) - Beautiful heartfelt performance, this SHOULD be enough to put her into the top 12. Randy says he would like to see her sing again. Ellen says it was a lovely performance. Kara says it was one of her favorite moments of the SEASON! Simon says he agrees with Kara, says it was the best of the night.

Paige Miles - "Smile" by Charlie Chaplin - (Download on iTunes) - Awful performance, there is no way she will make the top 12 with this performance. Randy says it didn't work. Ellen says the song was sad and heavy. Kara says it was all wrong. Simon says it was a horrible choice of song.

Crystal Bowersox - "Give Me One Reason" by Tracy Chapman - (Download on iTunes) - One of the best of the night. She will sail through into the top 12 and beyond. Randy said that was hot. Ellen says best of the night. Kara says she is excited. Simon says she is the one to beat.

Lilly Scott - "I Fall To Pieces" by Patsy Cline - (Download on iTunes) - Do not want Lilly anywhere near a country song. She's great, but maybe not for this song. Randy says well done. Ellen says she loved it. Kara says she made Patsy Cline feel current. Simon says she is brave to choose that song, but did not have the wow factor.

My picks to go home: Paige & Katie

Houston Hearts Haiti is a benefit CD put together by Houston entertainment blogger Joey Guerra and singer Jennifer Grassman, and it features 2 singers that may be familiar to American Idol fans.

Kady Malloy
was a semi finalist on Season 7 of American Idol who made it within one week on the top 12 before being eliminated from the competition.

Cassidy Haley gained recognition with the American Idol community during season 8 where he designed some of pieces that Adam Lambert wore on the show and on the summer tour. He also auditioned for Season 9 but did not get a ticket to Hollywood.

Kady and Cassidy team up with at least 14 other Houston musicians to create this (still growing) compilation CD to benefit Haiti.

It's that time again! 4 more people get sent packing on Idol tonight! My choices to go home are Haeley and Lacey for the girls & Jermaine and Aaron for the boys.

While you're waiting for the show to start, download performances from all the idols, here are your links! Crystal Bowersox Didi Benami Haeley Vaughn Katelyn Epperly Katie Stevens Lacey Brown Lilly Scott Michelle Delamor Paige Miles Siobhan Magnus Aaron Kelly Alex Lambert Andrew Garcia Casey James Jermaine Sellers John Park Lee Dewyze Michael Lynche Tim Urban Todrick Hall

THIS Is American Idol!

Simon wants to take back his compliments from last night, but will not say who.

Group song is I Gotta Feeling by The Black Eyed Peas. Probably one of the corniest group songs ever, and it sounds more pre recorded than ever. That being said, I still loved it.

Results start! Tim is SAFE. Michael is SAFE. Casey is SAFE. John is GOING HOME. Todrick is left standing and is SAFE.

John sings Gravity. I think he is better than Tim, and should have lasted at least another week.

Lee is SAFE. Aaron is SAFE. Alex is SAFE. Andrew is SAFE. Jermiane is GOING HOME.

Jermaine sings What's Going On, and shows us why he got sent home.

Danny Gokey sings "My Best Days Are Ahead Of Me". He was no where NEAR being my favorite last year, but he did better than almost all of the guys last night.

Lilly is SAFE. Paige is SAFE. Katie is SAFE. Didi is SAFE. Michelle is GOING HOME.

Michelle sings "With Arms Wide Open". The first few lyrics seem to speak to what she must be going through after her elimination. After hearing her again, I don't know how I didn't pick her to go home yesterday.

Katelyn is SAFE. Crystal is SAFE. Siobhan is SAFE. Haeley is GOING HOME. Lacey is SAFE.

Time to LEAVE RIGHT NOW Haeley, Michelle, Jermaine and John.

Haeley sings "The Climb". So glad she's gone, but do not want to see crying on Idol. I'll feel bad no matter who it is.

Girls are back on Tuesday!
