American Idol's iTunes Trickery

For years American Idol has been offering "live" recordings of the songs sung on American Idol shortly after they air on TV. But what you see isn't always what you get. Is American Idol trying to pull one over on their audience? I'd say so.

Some of the recordings uploaded to iTunes are drastically different from the way they were sung on the show, but some of the remain un touched. Here is one example, from Lee Dewyze, listen closely.

Other contestants that have been heavily edited include: Haeley Vaughn and Lacey Brown. However it sounds like not much, if anything, has been done to the vocals of John Park and Tim Urban. I understand the editing that is done for the STUDIO versions once we hit the top 12, but these are advertised as live recordings from the show, which they clearly are not.

Download the iTunes versions here and compare them for yourself.
